A Faculty Development Program on Case Studies as a useful pedagogy for teaching learning was organized by Board of studies, Faculty of Commerce and Management-Savitribai Phule Pune University in collaboration with DPSS Foresight college of Commerce and Anjuman Khairul Islam’s Poona Institute of Management Sciences and Entrepreneurship on 19th April 2022 at 11 am.
Dr. Parag Kalkar, Honorable dean SPPU was the chief guest for the inaugural session Dr. Tanuja Devi; Chairman BOS- BBA SPPU gave the introductory remarks after our director Dr. Porinita Banerjee delivered the welcome address following a small presentation about the institute. Dr. Kalkar spoke on the importance of being updated on caselets, role plays as an effective pedagogy for teaching and learning especially post covid in sync with Harvard and Cambridge. He elaborated the effective ways to get students to practically apply their skills, and their understanding of learned facts, to a real-world situation and how they are particularly useful where situations are complex and solutions are uncertain. He addressed the audience with his words of wisdom and expressed that teachers being the role models and warriors, have the ability and responsibility to change themselves to changing technology landscape and added that he is fully confident that teachers are always ready to and would successfully cope up with new challenges for the benefit of students. Dr. Vasimraja Sayed delivered the vote of thanks for this inaugural function of this FDP.
The first technical session was delivered by Dr. M.D. Lawrence who enthralled the audience with 10 cases that captured a range of perspectives, as opposed to the single view of an individual you get with a survey response or interview after which Dr. Shirish Limaye did some activities with the participants present in the seminar hall where the participants can actively engaged in applying learned concepts, objectives, and knowledge to hypothetical situations by using critical and higher order thinking skills to answer tough questions.Dr. Sheena Abraham delivered the vote of thanks.
The Valedictory session started with participants sharing their feedback and inputs before the chief guest Dr. Surbhi Jain Professor and Head, Department of Management Sciences-Savitribai Phule Pune University who spoke on experiential learning and gave examples of how faculties should get acquainted with artificial intelligence too as it is the future. She stressed on the method of teaching using a case, or story, with a hidden message, which students explore to make a decision or solve a problem, developing specific skills and knowledge through inquiry. The program ended with a vote of thanks and was hosted by Prof. Lionel John D’mello, co-ordinated by Dr. Vasimraja Sayed, Prof. Talha Ahmed, Prof Lubna Shaikh and Dr. Mubarak Tamboli.
A few stalwarts were felicitated during the program were Mr. Shailesh Mehta Secretary DPSS Foresight college of commerce, Mrs. Nisha Mehta Director DPSS Foresight College of Commerce, Dr. Saroj Hiremath Principal Vidya Bhavan College of Commerce and Dr. Amol Murgai Associate Prof, TMV as well as Dr.Nasir Shaikh HOD-M.Com, MMCC.
The event was concluded with a photo session in the PIMSE lawns after a short tea break preceded by lunch and may dignitaries left positive comments in the visitors diary of the institute. Most of them talked about their enriching experience at the FDP.There were 40 external participants from different colleges and institutes and around 60 participants. The FDP received a lot of positive feedback from faculty members and research scholars from many colleges in Pune.
